Dusty (Douglas) Klauber ‘67

Except for 25 pounds, I weigh the same as I did at graduation. Actually, it would be two pounds more but for the hair loss. Advil has become my vitamin of choice and I’m losing ground in the battle of the belt. Reading sometimes requires glasses but I can still feed myself without drawing blood. I do tend to get a lot of it on me however. Thankfully, Maureen is there to keep me presentable.

All this will change in 2006, as I will be retiring at year-end. Then watch out. I plan to get my pre-baby boomer body back into some semblance of shape, so that by the time I’m 95, I might be able to shoot my age! I also have plans to take up skiing while I’m still young enough to recover from multiple bone fractures. Quite optimistic for someone who considers a round of golf successful if the paramedics don’t have to be called.

I’m technically an endangered species. I’ve worked my whole career for one company, been happily married to the same wonderful woman for 37 years and owned only one home. However, we have gone through sixteen cars and a plethora of drivers, putters and tennis racquets. Not to mention diapers!

We have three children and five grandchildren and the diapers that were made of cotton in the seventies have been replaced by disposables. However, the stuff that fills them has not changed much.

All of our children live in NH/VT so we see them quite often.

Here we are at our time-share in North Conway NH celebrating my 60th birthday.

We’re on the downhill side of life, so every minute must be lived to it’s maximum. For us, this means retirement and trying hard to make the next class reunion!

Without work as a necessary distraction, Maureen and I will be heading out to visit all those places on our travel list. So get your guestroom ready - we tend to drop in unannounced.

We plan to stay in Nashua NH and take long winter vacations in the tropics. We love the four seasons, but com’on, one week of winter is enough. (this may change if skiing turns out to be the "rush" I think it might be)

Over the years I’ve been active in the Alumni Association and our class reunion activities. I hope to continue this in retirement because I’ve found it quite rewarding. It has let us stay in touch with many classmates and makes many other WPI friends.

Several of us are currently preparing for our 40th Reunion in 2007, which includes our class gift fundraising program. I hope all of you will join in this effort to set a high standard for % participation.

I have seen a bit of all the classes that have gone through the WPI experience. All are great in their own way. However, a handful, are truly special. The class of 1967 is one of these. We have set the standard for reunions and our 40th will continue that success. I hope you will find a way to join us in June 2007. Maureen and I will be there - skiing injuries not withstanding.
