A Message from Dexter A. Bailey, Jr., Vice President for Development and Alumni Relations
Welcome to WPI's new Development and Alumni Relations Web site! Our goal in creating this site was to offer more and better ways for WPI alumni to connect with one another and with the university in real-time. I hope you will take some time to explore all this new site has to offer, including an online alumni directory, email forwarding, message boards on a variety of topics, career services, and much more. Please tell us what you think and if there are any options and services you would like to see added. We want to hear from you.
As alumni, you are the university's strongest supporters and best ambassadors. WPI graduates embody the importance to the world of WPI's distinctive approach to project-based education. Every time you invest your energy, expertise, and other resources on behalf of WPI, you add value to your degree. Many of the alumni I have met on the road are calling for meaningful engagement with WPI—beyond direct mail—and we are working hard to provide that engagement to you through this online community, which has been designed with input from alumni around the world. We are also hosting more gatherings around the country, where alumni can come together and participate in conversations about the future of WPI.
It's especially heartening to know how willing you are to invest your time, your connections, and your financial resources in support of the university's highest priorities, which include:
- Additional financial aid funds
- Increased faculty resources
- Revitalization of our campus and facilities
Going forward, you can expect more engagement, more opportunities for dialogue, more online services, and more requests for your involvement and support as WPI leverages its resources to realize its tremendous potential as a world-class university. With the strong support of WPI's committed alumni, parents, and great friends, we will succeed in achieving our goals.

A message from Bill Krein '62, President of the WPI Alumni Association
It is my distinct privilege to serve WPI and its alumni as president of the WPI Alumni Association (WPIAA). Founded in 1891, the Association has served as the alumni voice of support to the WPI leadership. The next two years will be a period of great change for the WPIAA, as we position ourselves for a more strategic role in the university’s future. The WPIAA is changing more than just its organizational structure; each change reflects the new way of thinking about alumni involvement. We’re looking at how, and where, we can contribute on a more involved level. With increased Office of Alumni Relations staffing to handle administrative operations, the WPIAA is free to function in more of an advisory capacity — with a focus on long-term policy and direction.
Because there is so much happening at WPI today, we need to ensure that the WPIAA has the broadest representation possible and that there are increased opportunities for alumni to continue their involvement. New electronic methods offer alternate ways of communicating and conducting WPIAA business, which will greatly enhance alumni participation in groups and panels, while substantially reducing the need to travel to campus. There are any number of ways you can participate including joining your local chapter, attending Reunion, serving on your Class Board or class agent program, introducing WPI to prospective students and their parents, contributing to the Annual Fund, advising the Career Development Center of employment opportunities in your business, registering online at alumniconnect.edu, or simply by sharing your enthusiasm for WPI with those around you.
Together we can support WPIAA members throughout their careers, influence the lives of today’s students, and be an important part of leading WPI to a bright future.
