Jami B. Walsh '97
Jami Walsh, you have demonstrated tremendous pride in and loyalty to WPI since the moment you arrived on campus. During your years on campus, you took university promotion to the highest levels through your involvement with the Office of Admissions. You donated your time and energy to helping WPI recruit the best students by serving as a tour guide for three years. You then became an admissions intern in your senior year, increasing your face time with prospective students and their families, as well as learning the intricacies of the WPI admissions process. You have continued to put this information to excellent use as an Alumni Admissions Ambassador, promoting WPI at college fairs and corresponding with applicants and their families.
As a civil engineering major, you joined the WPI chapters of both the American Society for Civil Engineers and the Society for Women Engineers. After earning your bachelor’s degree in 1997, you pursued and earned your master’s degree in environmental engineering in 1999, serving as a teaching assistant while completing your thesis and continuing to volunteer with the Admissions Office.
Since graduation, you have served on your class board of directors and planned your class’s successful Fifth Reunion. Furthermore, you took the initiative to revitalize the Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD), a group organized specifically to plan events targeted at their peers. Under your leadership, GOLD has gone from a near defunct committee to a functioning organization that meets regularly and provides numerous and varied events for young alumni throughout New England. Your commitment to alumni outreach and interaction is as strong as your commitment to WPI itself.
Having passed the PE exam in 2006, you are now a registered Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, and you continue to offer your leadership and guidance as past chair of GOLD to ensure its longevity and continued success.
Jami Walsh, you have established a pattern of embracing positions of leadership, and for your continued efforts, WPI is proud to honor you with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.
