1. "Name the Newsletter" Contest Winner
From our three finalists, a winner emerged: The Bridge. Great minds really DO think alike--four alums suggested The Bridge (or a close variation). We held a drawing for the WPI cherry arm chair and the winner is Harold Wright '63! We'd also like to acknowledge Sean Gillard '85, Daniel Rice '46 and Gordon Mears '69 for their winning suggestions.

2. Space Shuttle Tragedy Hits Home
A dozen WPI students are working on projects at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas, now the epicenter for Space Shuttle Columbia recovery efforts. Last Saturday, instead of attending a welcome home party for the crew, WPI students honored the seven fallen astronauts at a memorial service. Read more...
3. Sweating the Very Small Stuff: Nanotechnology Grant Breaks Record
Three WPI professors joined forces to obtain the largest grant for a research study in the emerging field of nanotechnology in the university's history. The award from the National Science Foundation provides more than $600,000 to fund a three-year research project through September 2005. Read the full story...

WPI's research and educational programs benefited from nearly $850,000 in gifts from corporations in the second half of 2002. These gifts supported undergraduate scholarships, graduate fellowships, current research, teaching labs, and more. Read the story and see the complete list of recent corporate gifts.
7. WPI Segways On CNN.com
As the first university in the world to use Segway human transporters, (invented by Dean Kamen '73), WPI caught the media's attention. The story was featured on CNN online, and in Boston Business Journal, The Chronicle of Higher Education, and other local and national publications.
