1. WELCOME: 'Tis the Gift Giving Season

The annual gifts made by WPI's alumni, parents, and friends have a significant impact on university programs--and can help with your taxes, too. Your contributions to the Annual Fund provide support to WPI for financial aid, student life, the library, academic programs, global studies, and other ongoing operational needs. As you are aware, gifts made before midnight, Dec. 31, 2004, qualify as a tax deduction on your 2004 return.

As some of you may know, Beth Howland, director of Alumni Relations at WPI for the past three years, has accepted a position with Amherst College as associate director of major gifts. Her commitment to and support of the Alumni Association has been unwavering. The leadership that she brought to the Alumni Office and the support she gave to me and the Association Cabinet was truly outstanding in every respect. We wish her the very best for the future and thank her for all that she did on our behalf. She will be missed.

May the holiday season bring you and your family peace and joy, and the new year happiness and good health.

Fred Costello '59
President, WPI Alumni Association
