The Bridge - April 2006

Message to All Alumni

Currently, the Office of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving uses a number of methods to share information with and stay connected to WPI alums. We want to ensure that we are providing the best means of communication for our alumni, and in an effort to do so, we are asking for your help.

We would appreciate your input on how these various methods are meeting your needs for staying in contact with WPI and the Alumni Association. The survey takes less than 15 minutes to complete. Your feedback is extremely valuable to the development of our future communications plans. If you have any specific suggestions, questions, or comments, please include them in the provided blank fields or e-mail them to alumni-office@wpi.edu. We appreciate your input and your time. By completing the survey, you will be entered into a drawing to win an iPod. The winner will be announced in the May issue of The Bridge.

Take the survey.

Your questions and comments about The Bridge are always welcome at thebridge@wpi.edu.

Meet Your Alumni Association Leaders

Transformations offers readers a chance to get to know the people behind the WPI Alumni Association. The spring issue will feature an interview with Alumni Association President Morgan Rees '61, and a profile of Paula Delaney '75, who heads the Lifelong Learning Division. The mission of this division is to provide traditional and non-traditional learning opportunities for alumni at all stages of life. "We tune the topic to the group," says Paula. One of her priorities is to find ways to leverage WPI's information technology resources to facilitate the work of the Alumni Association. She is exploring using existing software packages to create an online community for alumni volunteers, where committee members can easily share information. Web and telephone conferencing are other technologies that can empower alumni groups who may be scattered around the country. "As students, what we did here [at WPI] was learn how to learn," she says. "Now we need to provide opportunities for continued learning experiences for our WPI Alumni."

New volunteers and fresh ideas are always welcome. To learn more about the Lifelong Learning Division, contact Paula at pdelaney@wpi.edu, or go to their website.

A Third Sorority for WPI

Alpha Xi Delta sorority has accepted the offer to charter a chapter at WPI, becoming WPI's third Greek organization for women. Founded in 1893 by 10 young women at Lombard College in Galesburg, Ill., it is one of the oldest women's fraternities, with more than 120,000 initiated members. Alpha Xi Delta will begin conversations with WPI about PR and marketing strategies in July, and the Panhellenic Council is working on plans for formal recruitment and post-recruitment events. "WPI women have been very supportive of sorority expansion," says Emily Perlow, assistant director of student activities and Greek life programs at WPI. "The addition of Alpha Xi Delta is a positive step in supporting our women students." Learn more about Greek life at WPI...
