Reunion & Homecoming

Reunion 2007 was a great success, with alumni, family, and friends returning to campus to reconnect with old friends. At the Alumni Association Annual Meeting, outgoing president Morgan Rees '61 reflected on the Association's accomplishments and handed over the reins to his successor, Bill Krein '62.

Alumnus Chronicles War Years at WPI

John Gagliardo ’46 recently donated his collection of historical photographs to WPI’s Gordon Library, including images of campus life in the 1940s and the school's Navy V-12 program. During World War II, the Navy V-12 program allowed participants to attend college, complete a bachelor's degree, and earn a commission in the US Navy or US Marine Corps. Gagliardo took the photos while he was a student enrolled in the V-12 program. View photos...

Prof. Cyganski Wins 2007 Grogan Award

For his pioneering work in bringing information technology to campus, and his efforts toward the long-term success of the WPI plan, David Cyganski ’75 was honored with the William R. Grogan Award for Support of the Mission of WPI. The award was presented at Reunion 2007. Read the full citation...

President Bush Commissions WPI Grad as Navy Ensign

Joanna Bridge, a Class of 2007 graduate, was commissioned as an ensign in the U.S. Navy by President George W. Bush in a May 17, 2007, ceremony at the White House. Ensign Bridge, 22, of Amherst, N.H., graduated with high distinction in May, with a B.S. in civil engineering. Two days prior to WPI’s Commencement 2007, she represented Massachusetts in the first joint Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) commissioning ceremony ever held at the White House. Read more...

Chronicle of Lauds WPI’s Global Projects

The Chronicle of Higher Education featured WPI’s Global Perspective Program as one of three university programs that are models for internationalizing engineering education. The article, which includes a photo essay on a 2006 project in Namibia, notes that WPI's program is uniquely effective in engaging students in other cultures and enabling them to experience the challenges of solving real world problems. The George C. Gordon Library is marking its 40th birthday with a year-long celebration that includes a series of special events. A website commemorating the Library’s 40 years of excellence features historical documents and photos, multimedia presentations, and a chance to post your own reminiscences of studying--or snoozing--among the stacks. Dedicated in 1967, Gordon Library fulfilled the Institute’s dream of a modern, centralized library to serve the research and instructional needs of the WPI community. Join the party...

Baseball Team Makes History; WPI Takes Worcester Cup

Congratulations to the WPI baseball team on winning a pair of well-played, thrilling games over Suffolk on May 17 to clinch the ECAC Division III New England Baseball Championship series. This was the first postseason title for WPI baseball in its 103-year history. On May 16, WPI was presented with the Worcester Cup, given to the top college athletic department in Worcester County. This summer, 30 teens will get a leg up on how to excel in the business world. WPI's Teen Entrepreneurship Camp, June 25-29, offers a week of talks, hands-on workshops, and creativity exercises to help teenagers learn what it takes to build their own business or social venture. Learn more...
