EMC Employee Recognized for Supporting Alma Mater

Kevin Beaulieu (right) accepts WPI's service award from former WPI President Edward Parrish during a June ceremony at the school's campus in Worcester, Massachusetts.

EMC Software Support Engineer Kevin Beaulieu believes in being available for his customers whenever needed. But in his spare time, Kevin believes it's also important to support one's alma mater in its efforts to educate the next generation of technically savvy employees.

Since graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts, in 1989, Kevin has participated in many volunteer activities at the school, including its alumni admissions program and his class's board of directors. In a June ceremony at the school, Kevin received WPI's John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service. This award recognizes graduates "who demonstrate the qualities of WPI's founder John Boynton through their energy, commitment, involvement, and noteworthy service to WPI and/or the WPI Alumni Association."

"In panel discussions," Kevin says, "I tell the students that attending WPI was one of the best decisions I've ever made." He explains to the students how his WPI education relates to his job at EMC. During an undergraduate event called "A Day in the Life of...," he described a typical EMC workday spent providing customer support. "Every day at EMC is another opportunity to learn," Kevin tells the students. "My group supports every type of host server, switches from three different vendors, and all aspects of EMC storage technology. For someone like me who loves high-tech toys, it's a dream career."

Kevin says he enjoys maintaining the great relationship he has with his school. "It allows me to explain to the WPI community the great technology and opportunities at EMC," he says. "The school, its students, EMC, and I all benefit from these discussions."

Founded in 1865, Worcester Polytechnic Institute is a leader in technological higher education.
