1999 Recipients

Fabio Carrera '84

Fabio Carrera, your years of leadership, creativity and vision have resulted in the success of the WPI Venice Project Center, where more than 75 projects, involving more than 250 students, have been carried out, providing Venetian organizations with invaluable results to assist in addressing the city's environmental, social and cultural preservation challenges.

Testimony to the quality of the support you have provided is the long series of President's IQP Awards that have been garnered by student projects completed in Venice--projects that you have designed, co-advised and marketed. Your dedication and commitment have provided WPI and its students with opportunities to explore the interaction of science, technology and society, while learning about themselves and their place in the world. Without your vision, which led to the founding of the project center in 1988, WPI could not have taken its place in the history of the preservation of Venice.

Fabio Carrera, it is with pleasure that we recognize your commitment to WPI and to your native city by presenting you with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.

Deborah Harrow '84

Deb Harrow, your years of volunteer leadership have distinguished you among young alumni. From your involvement in the Alumni Admissions Program to your current post of chair of your class's 15th Reunion Gift Committee, your efforts have served to bring students and alumni closer to WPI.

Your loyalty to WPI began during your undergraduate years, when you were involved with the Social Committee, the Interfraternity Council and the Orientation Committee. You also served your class as president. Since graduation, your active leadership as a member of the Executive Committee and the Master Plan Committee has helped shape the future of the Alumni Association. As a loyal supporter of your class, you served generously as a member of the class board of directors, a class agent and a Reunion volunteer.

Deb Harrow, your valuable insights and engaging demeanor have made you an apt leader and an honored friend. It is with great pleasure that we present to you today the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.
