Kevin D. Beaulieu '89

Kevin Beaulieu, your years of volunteer leadership have distinguished you among our young alumni. From your involvement in the Alumni Admissions Program to your current position as co-chair for the Class of 1989's board of directors, your efforts have served to bring students and alumni closer to WPI.

Your loyalty to WPI began during your undergraduate years as a member of the national service fraternity Alpha Phi Omega. As a loyal supporter of your class, you have served generously as a member of the class board of directors, and a volunteer for Reunion and Homecoming.

You continue to serve your alma mater as a member of the Alumni Admissions Program, contacting and engaging prospective students and their parents through your participation at college fairs and other admissions activities. Most recently, as a member of the Web Site Redesign Advisory Board, your service has been invaluable, helping shape the content and visual imagery of the alumni site. As a class representative on the Alumni Leadership Council, your dedication to the mission of connecting alumni to their alma mater is unmistakable.

You have been earnestly involved in all alumni-related activities you've been asked to join, and you continue to be an active and effective volunteer, one who has made a difference for this university.

Kevin Beaulieu, in recognition of your long-standing commitment to your alma mater, it is an honor to present you with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.

Karen Daly Cohen '94

Karen Cohen, you have been a faithful friend and vigorous supporter of your alma mater – during your years on campus, and in the years since your graduation. Your commitment to WPI and especially to the Class of 1994 has been outstanding.

As a student, your activities cut across the spectrum of involvement in university life. A member of Skull, a resident scholar, an athlete in track, a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, and a recipient of the Miriam Rutman scholarship, you let nothing stand in your way.

Your professional life has also been distinguished by your determination to blaze your own path. Having spent several years working for Exxon Corporation, you changed tracks to start your own mural painting business. Unwilling to bow to the conventional, you demonstrated the true entrepreneurial spirit of the WPI graduate. Your relationship to WPI has been marked by that spirit.

As a leader of your class's board of directors, you have provided direction and inspiration for your classmates, and have done a yeoman's job of keeping spirits high. As chair of the Class of 1994's Fifth Reunion Gift effort, you set a new record – 24 percent – for participation in a young alumni class. Your personal efforts in achieving that goal – building the committee, strategizing with the Annual Giving team, calling classmates – were an extraordinary factor in the success of that effort. Since then, you have remained the backbone of the class, helping organize the Fifth Reunion celebration and the 10th Anniversary Gift campaign and Reunion. One time the youngest member of the President's Advisory Council, you were an example of generosity to your classmates, and to all young alumni.

Karen Cohen, in recognition and appreciation of your outstanding efforts on behalf of your alma mater, it is an honor to present you with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.

Jennifer Shiel Wyse '94

Jennifer Wyse, thank you for your ongoing devotion to your alma mater.

As an undergraduate, you were actively involved in Phi Sigma Sigma sorority, the ski team, the soccer team, the Newman Club, the Interfraternity Council and Skull.

You were a resident advisor as well as a student hall director. You participated on the committee for the 25 Year Celebration of Women at WPI. You were a peer educator, an open house tour guide and discussion leader, and a phonathon and Reunion Weekend volunteer.

Graduating from WPI and applying to serve on the Class of '94 board of directors opened up a whole new world of volunteer opportunities for you. You've served on your class board since 1994, taking active roles in planning your fifth and tenth reunions. You are part of the WPI Alumni Admissions Program. You participated in the alumna/student e-mail mentoring program of the Alumni Association.

You have also assisted with fund-raising, attending young alumni focus groups and soliciting classmates for your class's 10th Reunion Gift campaign. You are currently the Class of '94 representative on the WPI Alumni Council. Your husband has called you "Miss WPI," a name you have earned through your frequent participation in Reunions, Homecomings, Alumni Leadership Conferences, and Alumni Council meetings.

In addition to the support you provide for your class, you are an outstanding ambassador for WPI through your employer, GE. For many years you served as the campus coordinator for the GE/WPI executive recruiting team, enlisting many of WPI's best into your organization. In addition, your GE/WPI connection helped secure a gift for WPI's Campus Center, and aided the university in earning a Math Excellence grant from the GE Foundation. You've encouraged many WPI alumni at GE to return to campus as recruiters, speakers, mentors, panelists – often in support of students of color and female students.

As a member of the organizing committee for the Mathematics in Industry Institute for Teachers, you've assisted in the development of the schedule for the summer workshop, organized the annual GE plant visit, and been a speaker each year sharing the GE Change Acceleration Process with teachers to help them incorporate industrial math projects into their curriculum. Most recently, you became a member of the Women's Programs Advisory Board at WPI.

Jennifer Wyse, for the many volunteer roles you've held at your alma mater, it is a true pleasure to present you with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI.
