Michael W. Donahue '90
Mike Donahue, you have been a faithful friend and supporter of your alma mater, during your years on campus and in the years since your graduation. Your commitment to WPI has been outstanding.
Your loyalty began during your undergraduate years, as a member of Theta Chi fraternity and a resident advisor. Then, while serving as student body president, yo u established a senate-style government that put more responsibility into the hands of elected student leaders and increased student involvement in allocating funding for student activities. You wrote a letter challenging the student body to show the trustees that a campus center was a worthy investment. You also spearheaded a petition drive to let the senior administration know that WPI students believed that a campus center was important to them and to the future of the school.
After graduation, you channeled yo u r enthusiasm into alumni relations. In 1995, you were selected to serve on the Trustee Search Committee; you've also served your alma mater as a member of the Alumni Association Cabinet and as chair of the Service and Social Division. You have assisted with fund-raising through the Class Agent Program and as a Reunion volunteer.
Your efforts played an important role in turning the dream of a campus center into reality. In fact, you were one of the first graduates to step forward and support the center. As chair of your 10th Reunion Gift campaign, yo u designated your leadership commitment to the construction of a room in the Campus Center for the Student Government Association.
You continue to serve your alma mater as a member of the Class of 1990's Board of Directors and the Alumni Admissions Program. You have graciously opened your home to incoming first-year students and their parents by hosting annual "Welcome to WPI" barbecues. You are a member of the President's Advisory Council, and you've continued to generously support the Annual Fund.
Mike Donahue, it is truly a pleasure to present you with the John Boynton Young Alumni Award for Service to WPI, in recognition of your long-standing commitment to the university.
