About Us
The Office of Development and Alumni Relations builds and sustains relationships with WPI's alumni, parents, and friends, securing the vital resources that add lasting value to the university.
The division is composed of nine offices, all working interdependently to carry out the community outreach and philanthropic needs of the university. The offices include:
- Alumni Relations
- Annual Giving
- Corporate and Foundation Relations
- Development Technology
- Development Operations and Research including Donor Relations and Special Events
- Planned Giving
- Major Gifts
- Development Communications
- Development in the Life Sciences
Working closely with the Alumni Association, a volunteer-led organization whose main goal is to provide benefits and services to WPI graduates, the division spearheads a wide range of alumni events and communications vehicles such as The Hill, The Bridge and the alumni Web site. In concert with the university's Marketing and Communications division, the office also contributes news and information to Transformations, the alumni magazine.
Among the many events and programs coordinated through the Alumni Relations office are annual class reunions, homecoming, and parents weekend. The office of Donor Relations and Special Events puts on the annual founders and scholarship dinners, endowed professorship celebrations, and the Imagine and Achieve series with the university president. President's Circle events, the Parents Fund and senior class gifts are products of the Annual Giving office.
The majestic Higgins House, surrounded by a formal English garden, serves as the backdrop for many alumni events, and is the headquarters for Alumni Relations and the Alumni Association.
Built in 1923, Higgins House is a miniature duplicate of the Compton Wyngates castle in Warwickshire, England. The structure was built by WPI alumnus Aldus Chapin Higgins and his wife, May, who bequeathed the house to WPI in 1971.
The Development offices are housed at 85 Prescott St. near the WPI campus. The office, opened in the fall of 2008, provides 7,000 square feet of space for Development operations.
