The Campus Center is exciting for many of us as it fills a niche that the WPI Community has been waiting for for some time. For Chartwells Dining Services, its management and associates, it is equally exciting that we will soon see the impact of months of planning and design. The Campus Center Dining Program is made up primarily of four components; Profiles in Good Taste Food Court Branding, Ritazza Coffee Café, Catering and Banquet Services, and Vending. Each of the components has been carefully thought out and designed to provide maximum service to the WPI community.

The Ritazza Coffee Café will be located on the main entrance level of the Campus Center. This destination offering coffee, espresso, cappuccino, smoothies, and light pastries will be accessible to the campus community from within the Tatnuck Bookseller @WPI Marketplace or from the common area outside the bookstore.

All catering and banquet services will be relocated to the Campus Center. Currently the process of ordering banquet services takes several calls to people in several different buildings. The new one-stop-shopping will allow students, administration and faculty easier flexibility in planning or coordinating an event. The campus center offers several locations to hold group meetings or dinners from 10-300.

In addition to the Profiles in Good Taste Food Court, Banquet and Catering services and the Ritazza Coffee Café, members of the WPI community will have access to several state of the art vending machines with online card accessibility. From snacks to canned juices and sodas, Campus Center guests will have access to food anytime the building is open.

The lower level of the Campus Center will be home to an exciting array of Chartwells Profiles in Good Taste food destinations. Each destination's modular design will allow flexibility as to what products are prepared at any given time. One destination that may offer cooked-to-order pasta and sauces can easily be modified to offer students and faculty Panini sandwiches or hot topped salads.

Information for the selection of the stations came from a student survey conducted in the fall of 1997. Students were asked to select key areas important to them from dining services in the creation of the Campus Center. The information was compiled and used to design the Profiles in Good Taste destinations. The destinations include, Trattoria, a pizza and pasta concept; Origins, an ethnic and vegetarian entree program; Garden Emporium, fresh vegetable and composed salads; Upper Crust/Sandwich Central, a gourmet baguette sandwich and custom made deli area; Out-Takes, pre-made entree and dessert selections for quick grab-n-go; and a wide selection of beverages and snacks.

In addition to the Profiles in Good Taste destinations, student surveys have indicated a desire to maintain a national brand on the WPI campus. Burger King will be added to the selection of foods available to the WPI community.

Profiles' flexible and modular design makes it easy for Chartwells to make changes in destination areas as customer demands shift or food trends emerge. Chartwells has had tremendous success with Profiles in Good Taste installations at several colleges including; University of Miami, SUNY-Stonybrook, University of Houston, University of Rowen, Wagner College and Quinnipiac.
