Process For Accessing Accommodations At WPI
Students who seek disability-related accommodations at WPI must follow an established procedure through the Disability Services Office (DSO). Documentation must be provided to establish existence of a disability and the need for accommodation. Criteria for documentation can be found in the Services/Accomodations section of this Web site. Documentation must be in our files before we can consider a request for accommodations. If the documentation supports a disability status, accommodations will be discussed with and implemented for the student. If students are found to not meet eligibility requirements, additional documentation may be submitted. Regardless of eligibility, guidance and information about academic resources will be provided to address academic needs.
Once the documentation has been received, a student must request accommodations. This will NOT be done automatically and must be initiated by the student. The DSO and the student will work together to determine the appropriate accommodations in accordance with the law.If the accommodations relate to participation in courses, the DSO will write a letter confirming the presence of a disability and stating the approved accommodations. Students are responsible for delivering these letters to their professors. If accommodations relate to other areas such as housing or dining, the DSO and the student will work together to develop a plan to make sure the accommodations are put in place.
