About Us
Mission Statement
The Office of Diversity Programs was established in 1993 to assist in the recruitment and retention of African American, Latino, and American Indian students. Because these populations have been traditionally underrepresented in the fields of engineering, science and technology and at WPI, the university has made a commitment to providing educational and career opportunities for these students. The Excellence in Mathematics, Science and Engineering Program (EMSEP) was also established in 1993 as a retention program for students of color. The Office maintains partnerships with a number of offices on campus to support students of color during their enrollment, including Financial Aid, Academic Advising, Student Life, Residential Services, the Student Development and Counseling Center, the Academic Resources Center, and the Career Development Center.
The Office of Diversity Programs works with campus organizations and offices to provide cultural programs for the community. Such programs include Latino Awareness Week, Black History Month, and Native American Awareness Month. We also serves as a resource to the campus community for issues regarding diversity and inclusion of people of color.
We are committed to assisting high school students of color learn about opportunities in the fields of engineering, science and technology. We also encourages student groups to visit campus and learn about educational opportunities and programs at WPI. In addition, we coordinate community service programs with the Kids 2 College Program and Friendly House.
