Parents Fund

A special part of the fundraising effort at WPI, the Parents Fund is made up of gifts from parents of both current students and alumni. Through the WPI Parents Fund, families may give to the highest priorities of the university, supporting investments in student life, faculty teaching and research, and financial aid. Last year, more than 630 parents made a gift to WPI totalling over $83,000 in support that went to work immediately, further enriching their student's WPI experience.

WPI Parents Council

The mission of the Parents Council is to develop and maintain involvement and interaction of the highest quality among parents, and to assist WPI in annual fundraising from parents of both present and past students. Parent support is highly regarded at WPI because it is an endorsement of what the university does to fulfill its mission "to create, to discover, and to convey knowledge at the frontiers of academic inquiry for the betterment of society." The WPI Parents Council also facilitates opportunities for parents to become involved in the life of the university and preserve, enhance and improve the quality of the WPI experience for their children and their children's classmates.

Parents Fund FAQ

What is the WPI Parents Fund?

The Parents Fund is vital to maintaining WPI as a world-class university whose dedication to both undergraduate and graduate education has placed it as a top institution of higher learning in science and technology. Gifts to the Parents Fund are used to support the current operations of the university, and supporting the Parents Fund has an immediate impact on the day-to-day life and academic experience of today's students.

Why should I make a gift to the WPI Parents Fund?

In this special academic environment, the reality is that tuition covers only 65 percent of what it costs to educate a student. The remainder must be offset by other resources, such as endowment income and annual contributions from parents, alumni, foundations, and friends of WPI.

What do gifts to the WPI Parents Fund specifically support?

Everything. Unrestricted gifts support WPI's highest priorities and allow the university to respond to emerging needs. They ensure our ability to enroll outstanding students regardless of their financial circumstances, attract and retain the finest faculty, build and restore state-of-the-art living and learning facilities on our beautiful campus, and expand and sustain a comprehensive range of academic programs. As an example, the highly individualized attention students receive at WPI is a major factor in the success of WPI students on campus, and after graduation and the unmatched low student-to-faculty ratio is made possible because of financial support from individual donors.

Does my gift actually make a difference?

Yes! Your collective generosity adds up to big support for WPI. Gifts of all sizes are crucial to the fulfillment of our mission.

Are there donor recognition levels for the WPI Parents Fund?

WPI is deeply grateful for the generosity of parents. In addition to listing all donors in our Honor Roll of Donors, we recognize donors at the following levels:
