Parents Fund FAQ
What is the WPI Parents Fund?
A special part of WPI's fundraising effort, the Parents Fund raises gifts from current parents and parents of alumni. Through the Parents Fund, families can give to the most important areas of the university, supporting investments in student life, faculty teaching and research, and financial aid.
Why should I make a gift to the Parents Fund?
We understand how parents may feel when asked to contribute to the Fund. After all, you've already done your part by paying all or a portion of your tuition bill, right? The reality, however, is that tuition covers only about 70 percent of the cost of a WPI education. The remaining 30 percent comes from endowment income and annual contributions from parents, alumni, foundations, and friends of the University.
What do gifts to the Parents Fund support?
In a word, everything. Unrestricted gifts support WPI's highest priorities and allow the university to respond to emerging needs. A restricted gift may be directed to a specific program or area including academic programs, athletics, extracurricular activities, the library, performing arts, and projects.
Capital gifts are directed toward a specific purpose that meets the needs and priorities of the university, creating strong and enduring endowments that ensure WPI's ability to enroll outstanding students regardless of their financial circumstances, attract and retain the finest faculty, build and restore living and learning facilities on our beautiful campus, and sustain a comprehensive range of academic programs.

Parents Association and the Parents Fund—Ways to Get Involved
In addition to making a gift, many parents demonstrate their support by donating their time as members of the Parents Association Committee. More and more parents volunteer to work with the Parents Fund each year, making phone calls and keeping in touch with other parents and families. They serve as a vital link between families and the university, while also helping to raise money for WPI.
