Groundbreaking research is the centerpiece of the university's outstanding full-time graduate education program. In two major research institutes and more than 40 research centers and laboratories, WPI faculty members and students are advancing the frontiers of science and engineering, and the management of technology, producing results that enable new products, processes and services.

WPI offers corporations many opportunities to access WPI's research and development programs (see areas of research strength). These include:

sponsoring research by faculty and graduate students;
licensing technology from WPI’s intellectual property portfolio;
sponsoring undergraduate projects;
sponsoring graduate fellowships;
becoming a member of one of WPI's premier research centers or institutes;
hosting a faculty sabbatical;
using WPI as a beta test site for new products;
contract use of WPI's research facilities (Bioprocess Technology Lab, Fire Science Lab, NMR Lab);
joining the WPI Venture Forum;
