University Priorities

President Dennis D. Berkey

"Scientific knowledge and technological competence alone are no longer sufficient to keep our nation's industries, or its graduates, competitive in the global marketplace. The critical differentiator will be the ability to imagine and achieve the novel approaches, methods, techniques, technologies, and products that go beyond the predictable and that meet real economic or social needs."
—President Dennis D. Berkey

WPI is a place where students and faculty come together in new ways, everyday, to imagine and achieve marvelous things. It is a community that fosters the free and open exchange of ideas, demands intellectual rigor, and inspires the kind of innovations that make the world a better place.

All of these wonderful qualities—these hallmarks of the WPI experience—are expensive. They require a strong financial foundation at the university and considerable investment on the part of our alumni and friends. As we work to strengthen WPI and increase its leadership position, we seek support in the following key areas:

Unrestricted giving: Simply put, an unrestricted gift is the most important contribution you can make to WPI. Unrestricted gifts help maintain the depth and breadth of our academic programs. Just as important, they give WPI the ability to respond quickly to emerging opportunities across its academic programs. Unrestricted gifts support:

Project Centers: The projects represent the very heart of a WPI education. Each one gives students the opportunity to take what they've learned in classrooms and laboratories and apply it to real problems that matter to real people. Today, WPI hosts 23 project centers in places like New York City, London, Venice, Bangkok, and Limerick, Ireland. Gifts designated to the Project Centers support the WPI students and faculty who want use their knowledge to change the world for the better.

We welcome your questions on any of WPI's priorities and giving opportunities. Please feel free to contact us.
