Parents Fund

Thanks from the Parents Association chair - Paul Moore P'08

Last year, nearly 700 parents gave two gifts to WPI. The first, of course, was their remarkable son or daughter. The second was their gift to the WPI Parents Fund.

Gifts to the Parents Fund help ensure that our sons and daughters—and future generations of sons and daughters—have the best WPI experience possible. They support financial aid, which keeps the university's doors open to the most talented students, regardless of their families' financial circumstances. They provide the resources necessary to attract the best faculty, teachers and mentors who can guide our sons and daughters through their undergraduate years. And they enhance WPI's competitive position, making the WPI degree a stronger one throughout the world.

This year, the Parents Fund is hoping to make even more of a difference in the lives of WPI students through the generosity of 720 donors and at least $45,000 in gifts. I do hope you will join us.

Thank you, for your gifts, to WPI.

Sincerely,
Paul Moore P'08
Chair, WPI Parents' Fund

Parents Fund FAQ

What is the WPI Parents Fund?

A special part of WPI's fundraising effort, the Parents Fund raises gifts from current parents and parents of alumni. Through the Parents Fund, families can give to the most important areas of the university, supporting investments in student life, faculty teaching and research, and financial aid.

Why should I make a gift to the Parents Fund?

We understand how parents may feel when asked to contribute to the Fund. After all, you've already done your part by paying all or a portion of your tuition bill, right? The reality, however, is that tuition covers only about 70 percent of the cost of a WPI education. The remaining 30 percent comes from endowment income and annual contributions from parents, alumni, foundations, and friends of the University.

What do gifts to the Parents Fund support?

In a word, everything. Unrestricted gifts support WPI's highest priorities and allow the university to respond to emerging needs. A restricted gift may be directed to a specific program or area including academic programs, athletics, extracurricular activities, the library, performing arts, and projects.
Capital gifts are directed toward a specific purpose that meets the needs and priorities of the university, creating strong and enduring endowments that ensure WPI's ability to enroll outstanding students regardless of their financial circumstances, attract and retain the finest faculty, build and restore living and learning facilities on our beautiful campus, and sustain a comprehensive range of academic programs.

Are there donor recognition levels for the Parents Fund?

Yes! WPI is deeply grateful for the generosity of parents. Following you will find the roster of recognition levels for donors to the Parents Fund.

Parents Association and the Parents Fund—Ways to Get Involved

In addition to making a gift, many parents demonstrate their support by donating their time as members of the Parents Association Committee. More and more parents volunteer to work with the Parents Fund each year, making phone calls and keeping in touch with other parents and families. They serve as a vital link between families and the university, while also helping to raise money for WPI.
