HAO Launches 21st Birthday Program

This year's National Collegiate Alcohol Awareness Week marks the beginning of the Be Responsible About Drinking (BRAD) program at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. BRAD is a nonprofit organization based out of Michigan that was founded by the McCue family. On November 5, 1998, Bradley McCue celebrated his 21st birthday. Unfortunately that night, the Michigan State University student died of alcohol poisoning. It is in memory of Brad, and in hope of preventing other families from suffering the loss of a young life, that the BRAD organization was started. The organization is dedicated to educating young people and their parents about the responsible use of alcohol and what to do in the case of overuse.

One of the vehicles to send these messages that the organization offers to schools and parents is a 21st birthday card, signed by the McCue family. The cards are a friendly reminder of the dangers of excessive use of alcohol. This month, WPI will join over sixty other universities in distributing these cards to students turning 21. The cards will also include a laminated wallet sized card with information about how to deal with alcohol poisoning.
