Message from the President
Dr. Dennis Berkey
President of WPI
I am pleased to join with the Division of Human Resources to introduce Project Synergy, WPI's new training and professional development program. It is my hope that all staff members will take full advantage of this program, and that it will result in very rewarding career enrichment for everyone. The courses offered in this first year of the program were chosen after careful analysis of the Training Needs Assessment survey that staff members completed last fall. These courses address the most critical training needs, as identified by the respondents of the survey.
The first component of Project Synergy derives from the Noel-Levitz® customer service curriculum, a program which is specifically designed for academic environments. The goal of this initiative is two fold: to strengthen our customer service orientation and skills, and to encourage all members of the staff, regardless of title, to see themselves and the jobs they perform as critical parts of a dynamic institution. The more general objective is to align personal and professional goals with the overall mission of the University.
As part of this program we ask all supervisors and managers to support their staff in creating and executing professional development plans for themselves. Allowing employees to take time out of their work day to strengthen their skills is important in retaining a satisfied and highly motivated workforce. Training and professional development plans should be viewed as a vital component of every employee's job that are constantly evolving as employees grow and their responsibilities change.
I hope that everyone on campus shares my enthusiasm for the introduction of Project Synergy. The Division of Human Resources will be inviting comments and feedback so that the program continues to meet your needs in the years to come.
