Eligibility
Regardless of their insurance plan, all currently registered undergraduate students are automatically eligible to use the Health Center. Student's dependents are not eligible unless they themselves are students. Graduate students have optional service upon health fee payment at the Accounting office.
Health Fees and Insurance
The health fee covers all services directly available at the Health Center. Students are responsible for the cost of laboratory tests, x-rays, prescription medications as well as expenses incurred when referred to an off-campus physician or hospital. It is for this reason that Massachusetts requires that ALL enrolled students have health insurance. If you are no longer covered by a family plan, WPI makes available an insurance plan through Student Resources that provides coverage for major medical expenses. Information about this plan is available through the Health Center or the Accounting Office. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts also provides information via the Massachusetts Qualifying Student Health Insurance Program (QSHIP) website.
Confidentiality
All protected health information is confidential. Disclosure is not available to anyone without your informed written consent. This includes parents, spouses, and college officials.
Health Services records are protected under applicable federal and state laws. There are limited exceptions to this policy as Massachusetts public health law requires that certain communicable diseases be reported. The other exception relates to life-threatening situations where there is a threat to self or others. In the event of an emergency situation requiring hospitalization where it is impossible to obtain a student's permission, the parent or legal guardian will be notified by the attending physician.
