Library Services
The staff of the Gordon Library is divided into six major service groups:
- Archives and Special Collections acquires and preserves documents, photographs, publications and artifacts telling the history of WPI, as well as other documents of historical interest in other areas.
- Circulation Services assists users in acquiring library cards and checking out, renewing and returning library and course reserve materials.
- Library Systems manages the delivery of electronic library resources and services to the WPI community. Among these resources are the Voyager system and the web-based library catalog; the ENCompass digital collections management system; remote licensed resources, such as FirstSearch, ScienceDirect, Compendex, INSPEC, ProQuest, Knovel, Web of Science, etc.; and client-server resources such as SciFinder Scholar and Beilstein.
- Reference Services supports WPI community members in finding, using and evaluating information resources by answering questions, offering instruction and acquiring materials from other libraries.
- Technical Services is responsible for acquiring, identifying, cataloging, classifying and preserving library materials in a variety of formats.
Together, these service groups work with the other departments in the IT Division to deliver a comprehensive suite of information technology services to the entire WPI community.
