Interesting Facts About WPI and Internet2

WPI and NEESCom partnered to bring Internet2 capabilities to central Massachusetts. In July 2002, WPI became the sole owner of the Goddard GigaPoP. The Goddard GigaPop is located in the NEESCom building on Main Street, Worcester, MA. A gigaPoP is a "point of presence" or connection point to Internet2.
WPI campus is connected to Internet2. When someone initiates email or other connection from the WPI network to another Internet2 or VBNS member, the information travels over Internet2, automatically.
The Internet2 project gives WPI access to a network backbone capable of carrying information 1,000 times faster than today's Net.
Internet2 is capable of downloading the Library of Congress in 20 seconds.
