Resources
The resources developed at WPI are focused on providing relevant curricular materials that educators can use in their classrooms as they work with students. A subset of the resources is connections that we have to other influential groups and partnerships. These groups share our desires to increase the participation of females and minorities, increase the number of qualified teachers, and improve the quality of engineering, mathematics, and science offerings at schools.
Assistments
The Assistments Project blends assessments with instructional assistance. The resulting set of tools allows an author with no programming experience to quickly build a simple cognitive tutor for an MCAS (Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System) math item. This enables teachers to use these authoring tools to easily build a set of assessment and tutoring interfaces, or "assistments", which break down individual test items into component concepts and skills.
Engineering in Mass. Collaborative (EiMC)
The Engineering in Mass. Collaborative is a unique collaboration of leaders from businesses, schools and higher education institutions focused on meeting the Commonwealth's growing need for a workforce skilled in the areas of math, science, engineering and technology. Among their offerings are summer business externships for teachers. WPI is a member of the Collaborative, and Dr. Martha Cyr serves on the executive board.
TeachEngineering
An extensive collection of standards based K-12 curriculum items that integrate engineering concepts. This is a collaborative project with University of Colorado at Boulder, Colorado School of Mines, and Duke University. The activities are part of the National Science and Engineering Digital Library (NSDL) a new, meta-tagged internet resource for educators. Funding for this work comes from NSF.
