Discovery and application to help people and the planet

Collaboration is the organizing principle for life sciences research, education and technology development at WPI.  Here, interdisciplinary teams span traditional academic departments and coalesce around ideas, approaching complex problems from multiple perspectives to speed the pace of discovery. The common goal is to advance the science and engineer new therapies, devices and technologies that improve human health and benefit the global environment.

Translating discoveries into innovations

By design, WPI approaches life sciences research in a collaborative way, driven by a desire to solve important problems that often cross departmental boundaries. Learn more about Research at WPI.

Biomanufacturing Education & Training Center

The WPI Biomanufacturing Education and Training Center (BETC), under construction at Gateway Park, will open in late 2012 as hub of education, training, and innovation. Serving students and life sciences companies from across the region and the globe, the BETC represents an innovative partnership of academia and industry.  With such partners as Abbott Labs, Bristol Myers-Squibb, and Shire HGT, the WPI center aims to expand the multi-layered workforce the biomanufacturing industry needs to grow and educate the individuals who will advance the sophisticated work of producing medicines and research compounds using engineered living cells. WPI BETC is funded in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center. Learn more...
