Director's Message
The Life Sciences and Bioengineering Center at WPI is more than just a state-of-the-art research complex. It is a community of scientists and students working together to address some of the most important problems facing our world today.
In areas like regenerative medicine, tissue engineering, biophysics, pathogenesis, water quality, alternative fuels or advanced medical devices, we are pursuing fundamental and applied studies to bring innovation to the marketplace and new therapies to the clinic.
Our programs are built around the expertise of individuals, not traditional disciplinary or departmental lines. Collaboration is our operating system; solving problems is our goal. By fostering interdisciplinary research, we address complex questions from many different angles to optimize the potential for discovery and success.
WPI has a long and distinguished history of excellence in technology and engineering. Today, we are extending that leadership to the growing intersection of engineering and the life sciences, translating breakthrough science to improve clinical care, cure disease and clean our environment.
I hope you will explore this website, learn more about WPI, and consider joining us as a student, colleague or partner in these pursuits.
Sincerely,
Eric W. Overstrom, Ph.D., Director
Professor and Department Head, Biology and Biotechnology
