Welcome to Academic Advising
The Academic Advising Office is comprised of General Academic Advising and Academic Resources for Undergraduates at WPI. We are located on the first floor of Daniels Hall.
The mission of the Academic Advising Office is to:
- Assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans, which are compatible with their life goals.
- Help students accept responsibility for their own education.
- Recommend appropriate resources to answer questions or solve problems related to academic, career, and personal matters.
- Provide support to and act as a resource for students, faculty advisors and staff.
WPI’s advising program is based on a cooperative and understanding relationship between the students and advisors. Under the WPI Plan, students have the final responsibility for designing their own educational experience at WPI which includes understanding all their degree requirements and making sure all those requirements have been satisfied for graduation. The role of the faculty advisor is to help his/her advisees design a program of study which reflects the students’ interests and professional goals. While advisors are willing to suggest specific programs of study, they will not insist that students follow that particular path. Advisors also help students choose among academic alternatives, help them interpret catalogs requirements and review degree audits and grade reports with them. Students are required to understand these documents and their implications for academic progress and act accordingly. Therefore it is extremely important that students take the initiative to consult regularly with their academic advisors.
IMPORTANT ADVISING NOTICES FOR C TERM
Grades
Grades have been posted via bannerweb. If you have not done so already, please log-in to review your final grades for A and B terms and determine whether or not you need to make changes to your course schedule, as a result.
Waitlists
If you are waitlisted for a course, please check the open sections to see if you can rearrange your schedule to accommodate the open seats that are still available. Please also check your WPI e-mail to see if you have received an e-mail from the Registrar's office regarding an available seat that may have been offered to you. If you are waitlisted for a Humanities and Arts course or Social Science course, we encourage you to select a back-up just in case you do not get into the course.
Academic Advisor and Major Changes (First Year Students Only)
We are currently in the process of making Academic Advisor and major changes. An e-mail will be sent out the week of January 16th with information on how to access who your new academic advisor is. In the meantime, should you need any assistance, please contact us in our office. We would be happy to assist you.
