Confidentiality
The ombudsperson operates confidentially and does not disclose who used - or did not use - the office. The ombudsperson safeguards the identity of individuals and their issues and does not disclose having met or talked with a party or parties, without permission of the party or parties. The ombudsperson does not disclose without permission communications received from any or all parties in the course of performing her/his duties. Any notes or documentation compiled while serving a complainant are destroyed once the service is completed.
In matters, which become formal grievances or legal actions, the ombudsperson will not testify - either for or against a user of the office.
Once the ombudsperson has completed serving a complainant all documentation is destroyed.
Limits of Confidentiality
The ombudsperson cannot guarantee confidentiality when:
- a crime is witnessed.
- told about the intent of an individual to harm him/herself or another.
