Payment Procedures

Upon receipt of a parking/traffic violation, the owner/operator may pay the fine in person at the WPI Police Department. Payment of the fine within 21 days of the date of the violation will be considered final disposition of the case. Payment must be made only by bank check, money order, or personal check, made out to WPI. Payment may be mailed to:

WPI Police Department
100 Institute Road
Worcester, MA 01609-2280

Failure to pay or contest the violation within 21 days of the date of the violation will result in an additional $5 fine.

Letter of Notification

Upon accumulating three tickets, students will receive a letter from the WPI Police Department advising them of the requirement of payment.

Upon accumulating five tickets or more, both employee and student vehicles will be put on the tow list and will be subject to immediate tow. In addition, students will be put on a hold list and will not be eligible to register for the next term or, as seniors, will not be able to receive their transcripts.

Tow List

Any vehicle with five or more unpaid violations will be placed on the Tow List. When found, these vehicles will be towed under the direction of the WPI Police Department and will continue to be towed until all fines are rectified by the owner/operator of the vehicle.

Towing Policy

Vehicles that have received five or more parking violations are subject to towing, as are vehicles found parked in those areas designated tow zones. Abandoned vehicles will be towed. Towing and storage is at the expense of the owner/operator of the vehicle.

Appeals

The owner/operator may choose to contest the violation. This must be done within 21 days from the date of the violation. The applicant may pick up an appeals form at the WPI Police Department, located at Founders Hall, lower level. A photocopy of the ticket must accompany the appeal. Appeals are reviewed on the third Friday of every month. (Note: this process includes a written response and administrative follow-up). Appeals after the 21-day rule will not be considered for review. All appeal decisions are final. Parking appeals can be processed online using the Parking Ticket Appeal Form.

Disciplinary Action

In addition to fines and holds, other action including but not limited to loss of parking privileges may be imposed.
