Freshmen who live in residence halls, are not permitted to park their vehicles on WPI Campus property, unless they have been granted special permission by the Chief of the WPI Police. (This must be a result of emergency extenuating circumstances). Individual requests for freshman parking will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Please send a hard copy letter to:

Proper placement of your decal.

Visitor Parking

Visitor parking spaces are marked with signs saying "Visitor Parking Only" and are reserved for WPI visitors and guests. These spaces are located in the following areas:

Admissions Visitor Parking Only

Parking for Admissions visitors is located on both the north and south sides of the Bartlett Center. A total of six spaces on each side have been identified as "Admissions visitors only." These spaces are monitored by WPI Police and will be strictly enforced up until 5:00pm. After 5:00pm ONLY these spaces can be utilized by community members and other visitors.

All visitors should obtain a temporary parking permit and it should be displayed in plain view from the vehicles rear view mirror. The department inviting the visitor should seek out a visitor permit from the WPI Police.

Motorcycle Parking

Two Parking areas have been identified as motorcycle parking on Campus. Signs clearly state "motorcycle parking only." The locations of these spaces are as follows:

All motorcycles are to be parked in these spaces and must be kept away for building entrances and sidewalks. Decals are not required for motorcycle parking, but all motorcycles will need to be registered with the University. This can be accomplished by filling out a registration form with the WPI Police. ONLY under two conditions can motor vehicles park in motorcycle spaces: During the winter months and/or by the direction of a WPI Police Officer.

Special Events Parking Procedures

Individuals and/or groups scheduling an event on campus that will attract visitors, especially those utilizing buses, vans and private automobiles should notify the WPI Police Department (ATT: Chief of Police) in order to secure their assistance and plan for providing proper and safe parking.

The WPI Police Department will provide individuals/groups with special parking instructions regarding parking in designated areas. Organizers of large events should work with WPI Police to arrange for traffic control and safety and parking away from heavily used areas of the campus.

Temporary Permits are not necessary when attending special events, i.e. Athletic Events, Concerts, and Commencement etc. But visitors must not park in fire lanes, service vehicle space, or any area designated as a TOW ZONE area.

Temporary Parking Permits

Temporary parking permits are required for vehicles not permanently registered with the WPI Police Department. The permits can be obtained through the WPI Police, located at 35 Dean Street.

Temporary permits are dated and specify on them the location where the person is authorized to park their vehicle. All temporary permits must be displayed in plain view by hanging them on the vehicles rearview mirror. Temporary permits are customarily designated for short term stays at the University. Temporary permits are issued by the WPI Police for the following reasons:

Temporary Medical Permits

University members temporarily immobilized by injury or sickness may apply for a medical permit on a provisional basis through the WPI Chief of Police. Detailed information of the impairment must be noted on letterhead by the attending physician. Upon approval, a temporary handicap permit will be issued, with a specific end date, not to exceed thirty (30) calendar days. Individuals who have received a temporary medical permit, may park in handicapped spaces through the time period designated. All medical permits must be displayed in plain view by hanging them on the vehicles rearview mirror.

Handicap Parking

Several parking spaces have been designated on campus for handicap parking. These spaces have been identified by signs and painted decals within each parking space.

Motor vehicles displaying a valid handicapped license plate or official placard are already authorized to park in designated handicapped parking spaces. Please display your placards in plain view for identification purposes.
