Worcester Winter Parking Bans

Public streets will fall under two categories of the Winter Parking Ban.

PERMANENT: December 1 - April 30

A permanent ban will remain in effect on Emergency Arteries, WRT Bus routes and streets that are designated as critical to the flow of traffic.

The permanent ban means that from December 1 to April 30 there is no parking on one or both sides of the street between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. and also when a snow emergency is declared, anytime, day or night.

The following streets are part of the Permanent Winter Parking Ban:

• Harvard Street
• Lancaster Street
• Highland Street
• Park Avenue
• Institute Road
• Salisbury Street

DECLARED: When it Snows

If your street is not listed here, you have a declared parking ban. A declared ban means that parking is allowed on both sides of the street until the winter parking ban is put into effect.

You can expect the winter parking ban to go into effect whenever inclement weather is forecasted.

Residents are responsible to know when the winter parking ban is in effect.

The official source of up-to-date information on the winter parking ban is +1-508-929-1300. Other sources are the government access TV channel 12, DPW web site and local radio stations.

WPI Snow Removal Policy

Service Roads

The Service roads at WPI are plowed continuously during the course of a snowstorm. All vehicles (whether registered or not) found parked on these service roadways will be towed immediately at the owners expense.

Library, Quad, West, Goddard, Higgins House Lots

These parking lots are also plowed continuously during a snowstorm. Parking is not allowed along curbing or otherwise outside of lined parking spaces, (unless previously authorized by the Director of Public Safety). Vehicles (whether registered or not) found parked in those areas will be towed immediately at the owners expense.

Residential Parking Lots

The entrances to these parking lot areas are plowed regularly. A complete snow removal effort is coordinated by Plant Services. To accomplish this and upon notification, all vehicles must be moved out of these parking areas. Resident students may temporarily park their vehicles in either the Library or West street lots during these snow removal operations. When snow removal operations are completed, vehicles shall then be returned to their authorized lots.
