Graduate Students - Why Should You Participate?
Students who have participated in these events in the past say they are valuable for a number of reasons:
- They allow you to showcase and receive useful feedback on your work.
- They enable you to get to know other graduate students, learn about other research underway on campus (particularly work outside of your own disciplines), and establish collaborations that may take your work in new directions.
- Being required to explain your research and its value in a concise and accessible manner will help you see your work in new ways; it is not uncommon for students to refocus their research as a result of participating in these events.
- Engaging in fruitful discussions about your research can be refreshing, invigorating, and rewarding. More than likely, you will return to your work with a new sense of purpose and an even greater desire to make a difference.
