The Kranich Prize
The Wilmer L. and Margaret M. Kranich Prize is awarded annually to the WPI student who best exemplifies excellence in the humanities and arts and its full integration into his/her undergraduate experiences. This demonstration would include, but is not limited to, course work, independent projects such as the humanities and arts project, and extracurricular activities.
Candidates may be majors in any discipline other than the humanities and arts. A double major with one major in the humanities and arts is not eligible. Candidates must be students completing their junior or senior year. The prize itself is a cash award of $500 and will be presented at the Undergraduate Student Awards luncheon in April.
The nomination application will be accepted online no later than Friday, March 14, 2008 and should include the following materials:
- A faculty letter of nomination testifying to the nominee’s qualifications;
- A personal statement written by the student describing the integration of the humanities and arts into his/her undergraduate experiences;
- A resume including a list of projects, extracurricular activities, and involvement in the humanities and arts; and
- A transcript (an unofficial transcript from Banner is acceptable).
Optional: Additional letters of recommendation from faculty or staff are welcome, but not required.
The nomination application consists of two steps. First, faculty nominators will ask their students to submit their materials (personal statement, resume and transcript) into the online nomination form. When the students have completed submitting these materials, the faculty nominator(s) will then be notified by email to submit their letters of nomination and/or recommendation into the application. All materials must be submitted as PDF documents.
The recipient will be selected by the following committee: John Orr, Provost and Dean of Undergraduate Studies; Associate Provost Lance Schachterle; Professor Peter Hansen; and Dean Emeritus William Grogan.
If you have any questions about the online nomination process, please contact Nancy Hickman at nhickman@wpi.edu or at extension 5404.
