Standards/Expectations of Community Living

The WPI residential program helps students find a living environment where they can thrive personally, socially and academically. We expect that all members of the residence hall community-residents, staff, and visitors-act in a manner that demonstrates respect and consideration for those around them.

Within the residence hall community, the guidelines for social conduct are based on mutual respect among residents and the fundamental rights and responsibilities of community living. All students have the right to pursue their studies and to socialize in a safe and pleasant environment.

WPI is a community composed of a wide variety of people with different racial and cultural backgrounds, sexual orientations, and other unique qualities. Any act that shows disrespect of others harms both the intended victim and the entire community. Any behaviors that victimize an individual on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or disability are inappropriate and detrimental to the WPI community.

Residential Services expects that an individual's personal integrity and self-respect will be reflected in honest, responsible behavior. Our aim is that students reflect on their actions, display consideration for others, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to the goals of the residence hall community and WPI.

Students are responsible for knowing and abiding by the guidelines within the WPI community and should review the "Residential Community Standards." For information regarding the WPI Judicial System and the Code of Conduct, refer to the policies section of the “Campus Planner and Resource Guide.”
