Sponsored Projects Handbook: Introduction
The purpose of the Sponsored Projects Handbook is to introduce faculty and administrators at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) to the basic processes involved in obtaining external funding and administering the awards that result. It has been designed as a reference tool for those occasions where basic information about participating in sponsored programs activities is needed by WPI employees.
The Office of Research Administration (ORA) is primarily responsible for assisting faculty and departmental staff in proposal submission and award administration activities. All proposals to be submitted to governmental agencies and all proposals to corporations and foundation should be routed through ORA.
Corporate and Foundation Relations (C&FR) is responsible for proposal review and maintaining relations with corporations and foundations. C&FR should always be the first point of contact for faculty interested in submitting proposals to such organizations. Research Accounting is responsible for financial reporting, cash management, and other accounting functions for sponsored projects. Suggestions to improve the services provided and the procedures utilized to provide them are encouraged, as are comments on the content of this handbook and the Research Administration homepage.
Investigators should be aware that some government agencies are starting to require electronic submission of proposals, such as the National Science Foundation via the NSF FastLane web site.
