GAC Revitalization Efforts

The Greek Alumni Council (GAC) Revitalization Process is underway. See the letters below and consider getting involved in this valuable opportunity!

Dear Alumnus/Alumna,

Since my arrival at WPI, many of you have expressed interest in revitalizing the Greek Alumni Council (GAC). I believe strongly that the Greek Alumni Council can and will play a vital part in the continuance and strengthening of the WPI Greek community. To the left is a letter from Dick Hooker, Chapter Advisor from Sigma Alpha Epsilon emphasizing the important role this group can play.

We would like to identify the folks who may be interested in serving on GAC, ideally a minimum of two alumni/ae members from each organization that currently exists or has existed in affiliation with WPI. Please feel free to forward this to others who may be interested or to designate a particular officer on the alumni board or house corporation who will always serve as the GAC representative. If you would like to serve as one of your organization's GAC representatives, please contact me at the below listed information by October 15, 2005. At that time, we will identify an initial meeting date and time. The guidance and teamwork of GAC can serve as a powerful impetus for continuing improvement of the WPI Greek community and undergraduate experience and it cannot be successful without you.

I look forward to hearing from you soon,

Emily Perlow
Assistant Director of Student Activities & Greek Life Programs

Dear Alumnus/Alumna,

It has been some time since we have had a truly, productive Greek Alumni Council meeting. We have now had three fires and sexual assault accusations! I know that in years past we thought we where insulated from all this. The fact is; we are not. What has happened at so many other schools is now starting to show up here.

The most effective way for us to deal with this is through the combined effort of our Greek Community. Now; more than ever, we need to restart GAC. We need to find ways to be proactive and deal with Fire / life safety, Date Rape, Alcohol abuse, and the day to day issues that involve advising and running a chapter house.

I would hope that with Emily's help we could come together, once again, and forge a new program.

The IFC and Panhellenic also see the need to revive GAC and are looking forward to working with them. It has been a great opportunity for me to work with our new Greek Advisor, Emily Perlow, and plan for the re-vitalization of The Greek Alumni Council. Now it is time for us to act in our own best interest.

I remain, as always,
Sincerely and Fraternally,

Dick Hooker, FPE
Chapter Advisor
