About Us
Mission Statement
The WPI Student Development and Counseling Center is dedicated to promoting the safety, emotional health, and personal growth of all WPI students, as well as cultivating a supportive campus. Our work will take place in three broad domains:
Mental Health Counseling and Consultation – We provide individual and group counseling services to WPI undergraduate and graduate students. Our services also include consultation, crisis intervention, and referrals to specialists in the Worcester community.
Student Development – We provide a range of trainings, workshops, and presentations designed to foster personal growth and develop life skills needed for success at WPI and beyond.
Community Development – We are committed to creating a safe and healthy community for students by enhancing the network of student support on campus through training, advocacy, and peer education.
What is counseling?
Counseling is the process during which you work with a professional counselor in becoming a healthier human being in all aspects of life: emotional, intellectual, physical, and spiritual.
What happens during counseling?
During a session you get a chance to explain what is on your mind. Counselors are trained to listen carefully, give an objective viewpoint, and help you problem solve and formulate a plan of action. Sessions last typically about 45 or 50 minutes but may be shorter depending on your needs. All sessions are kept confidential unless you make a request in writing to release information. Exceptions are made only as required by law and are outlined to you before counseling begins in a form entitled "Informed Consent for Individual Counseling."
