Navigating the Relationship Maze

Just what is a healthy relationship? How can we make our relationships healthier? What's the best way to begin or end relationships? Discussing these and other questions about relationships can help students navigate the relationship maze.

Self-Esteem

Self-worth and self-confidence contribute significantly to students' success and overall satisfactions with life. What is self-esteem? Where does it come from? What can we do to improve our self-esteem?

Procrastination and Motivation

WPI can be a challenging place to maintain motivation and an easy place to get hooked in to the habit of procrastination. Students can learn how to improve their motivation and break the habit of procrastination without having to give up time for themselves.

Stress Management

WPI is a fast paced and demanding environment; both academically and socially. Students will benefit from learning more about their own reactions to stress and techniques manage stress and anxiety, including relaxation techniques, meditation, and self-hypnosis. Staff members at the SDCC hold guided imagery/stress reduction workshops throughout the academic year. Please contact Charles Morse at x5540 for information, dates and times.

Knowing Your "self"

Starting a new life at WPI can bring an opportunity to "reinvent" ourselves, but we don't start off with a blank slate. We bring our values, attitudes, and perspectives on life to WPI. Learning more about your "self" can help you relate more effectively with yourself as well as others.

Interpersonal Communication (He said/She said)

Most couples point to effective communication as a key to a healthy relationship, but men and women sometimes seem to speak different languages. Learn more about different communication styles associated typically with men and women and how to break down barriers to communication.

Spirituality; Connecting with the Energy Within

Whether we've had a religious upbringing or not we all have a part of ourselves which is spiritual. Learn more about your own and others sense of spirituality as well as different ways individuals connect with spiritual energy.

Alcohol and Other Drugs

You've heard it all we know. Yet far too many students continue to abuse themselves. What is this all about? Self-medication? An inability to relate to others when sober? We ask these and other questions as we discuss with you, the reasons students abuse themselves with alcohol and other drugs.

Dreams

Our dreams are our connection to the collective unconscious. Dreams heal us, guide us and maybe even warn us. We'll tell you about some basic dream symbols and from there help you to interpret your dreams. This a one of our most well attended programs....great fun and insightful.

Sport Psychology

What was Yogi Berra's great line, "Baseball is 50% physical and the other 90% is mental." or something like that. If you want to learn that mental side of sport attend this program. We'll use hypnosis, visualization, talk about pre and post performance routines, stress management, confidence and we'll guarantee your performance will improve.
