3D Studio MAX®

3D animation for the web! Learn to use 3D Studio MAX® to create eye-catching animation for the Internet. Participants will create a short 3D animation from scratch and post it on the Internet in a variety of formats, including Flash and Interactive 3D. Location: WPI Movie Lab

Vernier Software and Technology
9:00 am - 4:00 pm

Collect data in this hands-on workshop with the exciting Vernier LabProTM interface. You can choose whether to do experiments using a TI Graphing Calculator or a computer. They will be performed using Vernier auto-ID sensors, including Motion Detectors, pH Sensors, Conductivity Probes, CO2 and O2 Gas Sensors, Heart Rate Monitors, Microphones, and Gas Pressure Sensors. Location: Mass Academy of Math & Science

Training Session for NCSSSMST Longitudinal Study Participation

This 3-hour session is intended for schools that are interested in participating in the NCSSSMST Longitudinal Study. The session will provide an overview of the study and train staff members in the new protocol for contacting and interviewing graduates. This session is intended for new participants, but returning schools may join to offer insight and share practices. Location: Crowne Plaza Hotel

Smith College Tour, Northhampton

Visitors to Smith College will begin the day with an entertaining and thought-provoking workshop by Phyllis Lerner, Director of interweave, (Bethesda, MD). A long time educator and advocate for equity in schools, Ms. Lerner will engage us in a lively discussion of her most recent work on 'Counseling Girls to Bridge the Technology Gap'. Following lunch, Smith science and engineering faculty will host sessions on their use of technology in teaching and research, as well as discuss the Picker Program in Engineering, established in 1999 as the first program in engineering science at a women's college. College and University NCSSSMST Workshop

Members are invited to participate in a working session with NCSSSMST Board Members. Topics to be discussed (but not limited to) are: Transition to College, Research Initiatives, Summer Institute and New Partnerships. Location: Crowne Plaza Hotel

Fire Protection Engineering Tour

You've never heard of fire protection engineering? Well, you're not alone. WPI has 1 of only 2 programs in the nation. Fire protection engineers design fire sprinkler and alarm systems; do risk analyses of major industrial facilities. They investigate fires and explosions, assure safety in the NASA space program and do fire experimentation and research. Get up close and personal with this unique, internationally renowned program by touring the facilities and experiencing a live "burn" demonstration in the Laboratory of Fire Safety Science. Location: WPI, Higgins Laboratories

Museums of Worcester Tour
10:00 am- 4:00 pm
Don't miss an opportunity to visit these 2 exceptional museums!!! Go on a historic adventure and listen to the tales and legends through a docent tour of the Higgins Armory Museum (10 am-noon). Then, rest a moment for lunch at the Worcester Art Museum before setting out on an artistic journey, narrated by a museum docent (1:30- 4:00pm).

University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS)

Come visit the research facilities of UMMS, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' public medical school. You will meet with UMMS faculty, staff and students who will share their perspectives to cutting edge topics in cellular and molecular biology. You will spend time in our state-of-the-art facilities in Worcester and be able to ask questions on how and what biomedical research is being conducted in the 21st century.
