Building Partnerships for Economic Opportunities in Africa

This conference is designed to enhance networking that will identify potential African investment opportunities in specific core sectors of the economy in sub-Saharan African countries. Its prime objective is to promote economic and educational partnerships that will strengthen trade and investment ties between the northeastern United States and Africa. Companies that have been successfully investing in and importing from or exporting to Africa will share their experiences with the participants.
Plenary sessions and workshops will be held in Agriculture, Mining, Water Management, Higher Education, Alternative Energy, Health Management, Information and Communication Technology.
Objectives
- To promote linkages among African and U.S. businesses, governments, and educational institutions to facilitate the development of economic partnerships and a healthy and appropriately trained work force;
- To promote accelerated development of fair trade and industry, including exports and imports between Africa and the US;
- To expand opportunities for small-scale enterprises to become a force in global markets.
Host
Conference host is Worcester Polytechnic Institute, a leading university in science, management, technology, and global education, in collaboration with the Corporate Council on Africa and with support from the U.S. Department of Education, Business and International Education office, through a grant obtained by WPI Professor Arthur Gerstenfeld.
