Club Corner

Newman Club

Well, we had a grand cookout last Sunday afternoon. Our two cooks, Erin and

Nick, under the direction of Peter, did a great job and what a crowd we had. We are looking forward to this coming Friday night with our cookout and video. Hopefully some of our parents will be in town early for Parents' Day and be joining us for our cookout. If any of you reading this are around, please feel free to join us this Friday night at the Religious Center beginning at 5:30PM. The cookout continues until we run out of food.

Last Wednesday night, our Executive Board met and we decided that on September 21, we will sponsor a trip to Wright's Chicken Farm in RI. Our bus will leave at 6:00 PM and we should be back by 10:00PM. If you wish to go, please e-mail Erin at echo55 as we must make reservations this weekend. On Sunday, September 24 we will celebrate Greek weekend at our Mass followed by breakfast at the Religious Center. Be in touch with Christina Watson or Tim Fox if you wish more information on this event. Our Faith and Discussion under the direction of Jennifer Cooper met last night and will continue every Monday night at 8:30 PM in the Religious Center.

Our Mass this coming Sunday will take place in Founders' Study at 11:30 AM due to the military program in Alden. Please notice the change of location for this week only.

Legal & Social Issues Group

At last Tuesday's meeting, we discussed a variety of activities for the upcoming term, including movie nights and suggestions for guest speakers. We also discussed the upcoming mock presidential debate and working with SGA on a voter registration drive. We will be continuing discussions on these topics, and also have our usual political discussions, today at 5pm in the Beckett Conference Room in Fuller Labs.

Glee Club

The Men's Glee Club is off to another great year! This year's schedule includes two fall concerts with Wells College and the Christmas vesper service at Smith College, as well as Parent's Day, a Sunday mass at Trinity Lutheran Church, and of course our tour of Ireland over spring break. Our repertoire includes old favorites "Si Iniquitates" and "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child," as well as "Lil Liza Jane," "Cockles and Mussels," and others. Rehearsals are Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6:30 in the Janet Earle room.

Student Alumni Society

This past weekend was a busy one for SAS... we were invited to participate in the Alumni Leadership Conference. It was kicked off with a desert reception Friday where we were presented with an award. The rest of the weekend presented opportunities for our members to mingle and talk with alumni over a meal. Coming up, we'll be preparing survival kits soon! For everyone that helps out there is pizza and usually leftover goodies - more info at the next meeting.

We have a mascot now!! If you are interested in wearing the costume for games, or think one of your friends would be perfect, contact SAS. Tryouts are on the 15th. To learn more, come to our next meeting, this Wednesday at 5pm in Forkey Conference room (in Harrington) or email sas@wpi.edu

SGA

SGA held its first meeting Tuesday, September 5 in the Lower Wedge. This term is already very busy. The Senate is currently working on the Honor Code proposal. We are also planning an event to show the Campaign for WPI video to the student body at the beginning of B term. There are still a few senate positions open, so SGA invites anyone who would like to become a member to stop by the office and pick up an application. As always, everybody is invited to our next meeting, September 12 at 6 p.m. in the Lower Wedge. Hope to see you there!

Bilaga

Out first two meetings went without a hitch. We have decided that the meeting time should be moved to 8:15pm Thursday night, as this time accommodates more peoples' schedules. Our first trip is this Sunday, September 17th; we will be going to Six Flags, for the grass roots "Out in the Park 2000" day. See the Event page off of the Bilaga home page http://www.wpi.edu/~bilaga. Kudos to our two advisors, Professor Barnett and Dr. Cox, for kicking off the year with us. Next big date to look towards, is October 11th, National Coming Out Day, and the date of our open meeting.
