Q&A with Carla Howell

Interview conducted by Alex Knapp - Tech News Staff

Why are you running for Senator?

I am running for Senate because we've had way too much government for way too long. If you think the Federal government is too big, if you think your taxes are too high, I agree with you. Small government is beautiful.

What do you think qualifies you to be a U.S. Senator?

The Constitution requires only that I be a US citizen and 30 years of age. But more importantly, I propose that we make the Federal government so small, we don't need an income tax. I propose that we completely privatize Social Security. We will sell unnecessary, unconstitutional Federal assets and use the proceeds to buy a private annuity for each of our senior citizens. We will immediately end the 15% Social Security payroll tax. Senior citizens will be secure, and young taxpayers will quit pouring their wages into this rat hole, this Ponzi scheme, which will never bring them back a dime. I will vote small government. Every issue. Every time. No exceptions. No excuses.

What do you hope to accomplish as Senator?

Putting Carla Howell in the Senate is like putting a designated driver in a room full of drunks. But seriously, if small government Libertarian Carla Howell defeats incumbent, Big Government icon Ted Kennedy, there will be dancing in the streets across America, we will have rung in the era of small government. We will have returned to an era of individual liberty and personal responsibility.

What benefits would your Senate term serve the people of Massachusetts?

Big Government programs don't work. Big Government programs make things worse. Big Government programs create new problems. Big Government programs waste billions of dollars. Big Government programs divert money and energy from positive uses. Small government is beautiful. Small government leaves us with the resources and responsibility for caring for our neighbors, for educating our children, for assisting the elderly. Small government unleashes the natural creativity, compassion, and genius that lies in all of us. That's why small government is beautiful.

How would your term benefit college students in particular?

My small government proposal will immediately relieve young taxpayers of the Social Security tax. It will relieve all workers from the Federal income tax. You get to keep the money that you earn. And we will remove all the Big Government programs that are making things worse. This will restore individual liberty in America.

Finally, why should people vote for you instead of your opponents?

Ted Kennedy wants to go back to DC to write new laws. Carla Howell will go back to DC with an eraser. If you want freedom, if you want to encourage responsible behavior, if you think government is too big, and taxes are too high, vote Carla Howell, Libertarian for U.S. Senate.
