WWF Smackdown! seeks to host presidential debate

By Alex Knapp - Tech News Staff

On August 30, the World Wrestling Federation extended an invitation to both Governor George W. Bush and Vice President to a no holds barred policy deathmatch-er, debate, this October the WWF Smackdown! ring. This debate is part of the Smackdown Your Vote campaign, an effort to get young people to vote.

Both Bush and Gore have mulled over the possibility of participating in the debates, but have yet to commit themselves. There is no word as to whether or not Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman would be allowed to participate in a "Tag Team" style debate. However, WWF Commissioner Mick Foley has asked Mr. Gore to "keep his public displays of affection to a minimum" in reference to the now famous lingering kiss between Mr. Gore and his wife, Tipper.

Governor Jesse "The Mind" Ventura has agreed to referee the bout between the candidates, but has also asked the WWF to include third party presidential candidates as well. The format of the debate is undetermined, though a steel cage match is not out of the realm of possibility.

WPI Sophomore Winfield Peterson, on hearing about these debates, was so dumbfounded that for the first time in his life, he was unable to comment. WPI senior Jeff Sinnamon commented, "I hope Ventura takes them both down and gets elected President."
