Looking for a job? Career Fair 2000 is here for you

After choosing a major and trying to figure out what to do after college or even for the summer, one usually looks for a job. The Career Development Center has found a way to help. On Wednesday, September 20, 159 company representatives will be pouring onto the WPI campus for the annual Career Fair. Among these are returning companies such as Microsoft, Andersen Consulting, and General Electric. Many new companies are also attending to seek out possible employees.

In the CDC and at the Career Fair there will be booklets describing all the companies that are attending and what types of people they are looking for. Many of these companies will have a list of areas in which they provide employment. Previously, possible employers for some majors, such as biology/biotechnology and chemistry, have not been numerous. This year will find at least 9 companies looking for these specific majors.

Management, engineering fields, and computer science companies will be among the biggest attendees. All students need to bring are their resumes. For freshmen and sophomores there are opportunities for summer employment. Juniors can find possible employment for co-ops or summer opportunities, if preferable. Seniors will be able to judge the job market after graduation.

The CDC puts on a number of workshops, some of which have already occurred, that explain how to dress for an interview, how to write a resume, and the one that occurred on Thursday, September 14, at 4:30pm: "Navigating a Career Fair." When attending the Fair it is advised that the dress should be of interview style, or a little less formal as clothing makes a big impression on employers.
