As returning students may have noticed, many campus computer labs underwent changes during the summer. Several labs were reconfigured, upgraded and/or moved. A generous grant from the National Science Foundation allowed the CS department to set up a new Linux lab and necessitated relocating the 24 x-terminals from the Garden lab to AK120d. The CCC funded 12 Dell P-III 733MHz computers for the new Biomedical Imaging lab on the 4th floor of Salisbury Lab. The ADP lab in FLB16 was upgraded this summer with 31 Dell P-III 733MHz computers. In addition, the Dimensionless Lab in GH012 was also upgraded with 12 of these new Dell computers. In order to make room for staff expansion in the Information Technology division, the Zoo Lab was relocated to Kaven Hall 207 where it was consolidated with the STAT lab. The library is also adding 8 P-233 computers to its resources in the PC room on the first floor. A complete list of the changes that took place can be found below.
Permanent signs have been requested but in the meantime, temporary signs have been posted to alert users of the new locations. In addition, the CCC web page has been updated to reflect lab changes at https://www.wpi.edu/Academics/CCC/Labs/labs.html.
Arrangements are being made to install a card access system in Kaven Hall so that students taking CS classes that involve heavy use of x-terminals and pc's will have 24 hour access to the facilities in Kaven. In the meantime, both the Car and Stat Labs in Kaven are open until 10:00pm during the week. If the lab utilization in Kaven demonstrates the need for additional 24-hour access, efforts will be made to install a card access system on another academic building.
