A letter of thanks from the Red Cross

To the Faculty, Staff, & Student of WPI:

I'm writing on behalf of the Red Cross to thank you all for the wonderful turnout we had at the first blood drive of the school year (held on Sept. 13 & 14). A total of 212 people took part. We were able to collect 195 productive units (pints) of blood. Tremendous!

We are extremely grateful to Cathy Oliveira and the Pan Hellenic Council, who sponsored this drive. We appreciate the efforts of the sororities and the fraternities who worked on it as part of the Greek Week philanthropy efforts. Tracy Pakstis-Claiborne of the Student Activities Office and the Muriel Perra of the Events Office were very helpful, too, in arranging a larger and more central location in the Lower Wedge.

This drive occurred just as the area's blood supply had dropped to dangerously low levels. It was a great help to be able to collect so much blood. When you think each unit can help 2 to 4 patients, depending on how it is used, you can see what an impact WPI's drive has had!

On behalf of the patients who were helped by your generosity, THANK YOU SO MUCH!
