WPI Field Hockey feels some pain

The WPI women's field hockey team is keeping their hopes high, but due to injuries and numbers, they are feeling some loss.

Thursday night the Women Engineers faced Nichols College on Alumni field. It was a fight on both sides; the game went back and forth for the full seventy-minute game, but due to Co-Captain Kristen Busby (Mechanicsville, PA) and teammate Megan Parsons (Hatfield, MA) injuries the team had to play down a man.

Nichols College had their first goal halfway into the first half by freshman forward, Jennifer Eldridge (Tyngsboro, MA). Starting the second half with a 1-0 score the Engineers came out strong, showing great defensive skills from number five junior defender Nicole Conway (Barrington, RI), and from number twenty senior, Co-Captain Jessica Hoepf (Hampstead, NH).

The game finished with another goal from Nichols with 23:07 left in the second half, leaving the score at a loss for WPI at 2-0. Nichols now has an overall record of 5-4.

The Engineers played a big NEWMAC Conference game on Saturday morning at Alumni field versus Clark University.

Once again, due to injuries the team had to play without a full squad. Sophomore goalie Kristina Yim (Methuan, MA) came into the field for the women to try and put some numbers on the field. Although, Co-Captain Kristen Busby was back in full action and she did play the whole game, which gave the ladies an advantage with her experience and skill. After a long seventy-minutes, the final score of the game was 6-0. Clark now has a record in the conference of 2-0-0, and an overall record of 5-2-0.

The WPI Engineers now uphold a record of 0-1-0 in the conference and an overall record of 3-4-0. The Engineers will face Springfield College, a strong NEWMAC Conference opponent, tonight on Alumni Field at 7pm, come out and show your support!
