World of opportunities at Global Fair

by Courtney Estaphan - Tech News Staff

This past Tuesday, September 26th, the IGSD held its annual Global Opportunities Fair in Alden Hall. If you have thought about going abroad for any one of your three WPI required projects, this was the fair to attend.

If you missed the fair and would like to go abroad, do not fear. You can just head over to the IGSD office,(next to Stratton Hall) and get an application and hand it back in by Friday, October 6th. WPI offers some amazing places to go and do your projects. As a Freshman, Sophomore, or Junior, this is something you should definitely take advantage of. At the fair, tables were set up everywhere promoting different cities and countries that are available for students to do a project in. At the tables were students who had traveled and experienced these different sites. Some of the sites include, Melbourne and Sydney, Australia, Venice Italy, London England, Denmark, Washington D.C., Silicon Valley California, Boston, and many more. Also, at each table was information about each site, how much it would cost, how you get there, and what it would be like.

To make all this even more appealing, you can now get a free passport. You could have done this either at the Global Fair or you can go to Mail Boxes Etc. and show your ID and they will hook you up with a $5.95 price for photos. Once you have your passport, bring it to IGSD office and fill out your passport reimbursement application and a photocopy of your passport and you will be fully reimbursed! The IGSD web page, http://www.wpi.edu/Academics/Depts/IGSD, has all the information you might need for the application process to go away, and if you have any questions you can email igsd-web@wpi.edu. From personal experience, I highly recommend taking advantage of going abroad, seeing the world, and fulfilling a project requirement at the same time.
