Glee club Announces Ireland trip

As was announced in the previous Tech News, the WPI Glee Club, Concert Choir, and the Clark University Concert Choir will enter together on a joint tour to the Republic of Ireland, forming the Worcester Intercollegiate Chorale.

The Chorale is looking for individuals interested in taking advantage of the group rates to Ireland, as well supporting the group by traveling with them. The tour, which will take place March 1st through the 11th, visits the cities of Galway, Bunratty, Killarny, Carrick on Suir, and Dublin. Below is an abbreviated copy of the current itinerary. The chorale asks that anyone interested in more information contact Professor Louis Curran before Thursday, October 19th, 2000 by email at lcurran@wpi.edu, or by phone at 831-5695.

Thursday, March 1: Boston - The Chorale departs on overnight flights.

Friday, March 2: Galway - Visit the Cliffs of Moher. We lunch together in a nearby historic pub. After lunch, we drive to Galway, check into the hotel. The remainder of the evening is free for activities.

Saturday, March 3 Galway - In the morning we visit Connemara National Park, with its rugged seashore and bleak landscape. We will visit Kylemore Abbey, and then have an evening concert in Galway.

Sunday, March 4: Bunratty - We visit Bunratty Castle this morning, with free time to visit, lunch and shop at the nearby sweater shops. We enjoy the Medieval Dinner in Bunratty Castle, and another concert this evening.

Monday, March 5: Ring of Kerry - We visit the Ring of Kerry before going to Killarney. The remainder of the evening is left to travel and explore the city of Killarney.

Tuesday, March 6: Killarney - Day begins with a visit to the Muckross House. The afternoon is free before we give our Concert in St. Mary's Cathedral (Church of Ireland) in the evening.

Wednesday, March 7: Carrick - This day we visit the city of Cashel, visiting the Rock of Cashel. After "The Rock" we travel to our hotel in Carrick on Suir, and stay the night.

Thursday, March 8: Dublin - We stop at the Tipperary Crystal Factory en route to Dublin this morning, Once in Dublin we visit the Book of Kells Exhibition at Trinity College. The rest of the evening

is free.

Friday, March 9: Dublin - We visit St. Patrick's Cathedral in the morning with this afternoon and evening free before our Final Concert in Christchurch Cathedral.

Saturday, March 10: Dublin - The entire day is free to explore Dublin. We meet again this evening for the "Farewell Feast", the final dinner of our trip.

Sunday, March 11: Boston -We depart from Dublin airport, arriving in Boston late in the afternoon.

Students do not need to be members of the Glee Club or Concert Choir in order to attend this event. If you wish to visit Ireland in conjunction with the Chorale, please contact Professor Louis Curran.
